About short programmes
Would you like to experience studying abroad, but do not feel like leaving for the whole semester? Do you think that a week or two in another country or even studying online would be a better fit for you? Then various short-term opportunities offered by ISM partner universities might be a great option for you.
Students can participate in two types of short-term programmes:
- Erasmus+ BIPs (Blended Intensive Programmes)
- Summer or winter schools
Erasmus+ BIPs
Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) are short Erasmus+ mobility activities that combine online collaboration with a short physical (in-person) academic component abroad. Opportunities to participate depend on partner university offers, programme topics, study level, and available funding.
Application calls are announced by email only to those students who are eligible to apply to a particular programme. Applicants are ranked by several criteria, such as GPA, study year, and motivation. Priority is usually given to those students who haven’t yet participated in international exchange programmes, such as Erasmus+, before. Chosen participants are awarded an Erasmus+ scholarship.
BIP programmes usually award 3-6 ECTS credits upon successful completion which are transferred to ISM academic records.
ISM students have already participated in programmes in Spain, Portugal, Germany, France, Poland, and Croatia. We are actively looking for BIP opportunities for our students – current students should always check their inbox for new opportunities.
Summer/Winter Schools
Summer/winter schools are short, intensive academic courses, usually held during summer or winter holidays in the host institution. Students can participate in such programmes at ISM partner institutions or anywhere in the world.
Applications to summer or winter schools usually do not require ISM mediation and students are welcome to explore and register for these opportunities independently. If any support with an application is required, students can reach out to international@ism.lt.
Most summer and winter school programmes charge a tuition fee, which must be covered by the participants. Participation in these programmes is not considered and Erasmus+ mobility, therefore ISM is not able to provide financial support for tuition fees, travel, accommodation, or any other related costs.
Results and credits received from a summer/winter school can be transferred to student’s ISM academic records. Upon successful completion of the programme, students should submit a Transcript of Records to international@ism.lt.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use credits from short programmes to cover courses at ISM?
Yes, you can request these credits to be recognised instead of an elective course if you get awarded at least 6 ECTS credits. The course to be recognised should be related to your study programme. The recognition should be confirmed by Programme Diretor and implemented by Studies Services Department and International Office.
Important! Credit recognition instead of an elective course cannot be approved in advance. For example, if you participate in a summer school in Summer 2026, it cannot be used to cover an elective from Spring 2026.
Also, if elective recognition results in a lower course load in a future semester, the tuition fee at ISM remains unchanged.
How do I apply for a summer school?
Please check the application requirements of a specific programme. Most programmes require the submission of student status confirmation and transcript of records – these documents can be ordered through MyISM.
